Atta boys DMK!

Never thought I d praise these sobs. Their current stand on the Sri Lankan tamil issue is laudable. Their support for the Tamils, as against for LTTE/Prabhakaran, and, suggesting a federal structure in SL like the one in India are displays in solid statesmanship. These are the guys that have a records against both. Their support for the separate Elam movement and Prbhakaran in the past is well known. Ironically the DMK in the early days asked for a separate Tamil Nadu with in India.

The new posture might be due the coaltions with Congress in the centre and more imporatantly in Tamil Nadu where the DMK alone dont make the numbers. I think Rajapakse/Fonseka had this in mind ( where the pro and against LTTE factions were brought together in Indian governance set up) when the devised their offensive strategy closer to the elections in India. The brings us to the topic on Indian foreign policy (any policy for that matter) dictated by coalitions, elected by a mostly by less educated people, where parties compromise on their ideals in coming up with a common minimum programmes.

I do not know if the the current ruckus created by other parties are totally illegitimate. The self immolations are heart wrenching. These issues are too complex to be rationalized easily.

The Hindu editorial goes thus
